Self-love is important as it can motivate us to care for ourselves. Caring for ourselves influences the way we let others treat us. When we have good self-love, we can set appropriate boundaries with others. It can reduce harmful behaviors and encourage more positive behaviors in our lives. Self-esteem impacts all areas of our life. The saying I use in my therapy sessions is “If we think we can, we will, if we think we can’t, we won’t”. If we believe we can do something, we will be successful in doing it. If we do not think that we can do something, we will not successfully do it.
The better our self-esteem is the more motivation we will have, and the less fear will get in our way. Our self-esteem plays a significant role in how we present ourselves to others and what risks we are willing to take. Self-esteem is also a contributing factor to our mental health. Low self-esteem and a lack of self-love can lead to anxiety and depression.
